About Us

Matayos is located in Western Kenya, It covers an area of 196.2 square kilometres
It is one of the 7 constituencies of Busia County. Matayos Constituency is administered under Busia Sub County with a Deputy County Commissioner who sits at the County Commissioners Office at Busia town. Presently the Constituency has 3 divisions, 13 locations, and 33 sub-locations.
There are five electoral wards in Matayos. These include: Bukhayo West, Matayos South, Busibwabo, Burumba and Mayenje.
Matayos Constituency lies between latitude 0º and 0º 45 North and longitude 34º 24 east. The constituency borders Nambale to the east, Butula to the south, Teso North to the north, Funyula and Busia Uganda to the west.

PHYSICAL AND TOPOGRAPHIC FEATURES

Most parts of Matayos Constituency fall within the Lake Victoria Basin. The altitude is undulating and rises from 1,130 metres above sea level to a maximum of about 1,500 metres in the Murende Hills. The other part of the constituency is occupied by a peneplain marked by low flat divides of approximately uniform height, that is often capped by lateritic and a shallowly incised swampy drainage.

ECOLOGICAL CONDITIONS

Matayos Constituency has sandy loam soils, dark clay soils, clays and clays types of soils. The land formation and structure is suitable for both food and cash crops farming.
